Looking for a New Car? Check Out these Fuel-Efficient Models!

If gas prices have you tossing and turning in your sleep, it just might be time to trade in that late model car for a newer model.

It seems that as consumers, our only hope of controlling the current oil situation is going to be either altering our driving habits or using less gas to get further.

According to Consumer Reports and their recent testing for fuel efficiency, the number one car on your list should be the Toyota Prius. Ranked #1 - the Prius averaged 50 miles per gallon of gas on the highway and 35 in the city for a combined mpg of 44.

Coming in a close second was the Honda Civic Hybrid at 37 mpg. The Hybrid averaged 47 mpg on the highway but only averaged 26 mpg in the city, nine miles per gallon less than the Prius.

It appears that Toyota and Honda have a lock on the technology with 12 models ranking in the top 15 most fuel efficient vehicles. Mazda, Kia and Hyundai also each had a model on the list. For a complete list of the rankings, click here.
